uninstall
A couple emails I received lately made me wonder about uninstall. True, ZenMaick does clean up the changes it has made to zen-cart files, but it’s not perfect. There will be improvements but it is not (yet) going to be a full uninstall procedure.
Also, I prefer a procedure where the user has at least some degree of control about what is happening.
Getting those emails and people complaining about how to get rid of ZenMagick I wonder how other zen-cart mods handle this. Perhaps 20% of the time I spent working on ZenMagick have been to make installation and uninstall less painful. This is an incremental process and I have no problem with that whatsoever.
So what do other mods? My experience is that mods come with a bunch of modified zen-cart files that replace the original installation. The only way of uninstallaing is to restore files from an zen-cart distribution .zip file. Do other mod authors face the same issues? This seems even more unfriendly than what ZenMagick does!
To me the ZenMagick installation patch system seems to be the best you can get at the moment - even though I have to admin I do not look at other mods very often, so I might be wrong.
It is going to get better and hopefully smarter as well. Until then, people will have to be happy with what is there.
