…or, why are there no setXXXXX() methods in ZenMagick?
These are the sort of questions that have started to pop up more frequently lately, so I’ll try to answer them a bit.
First of all, there is no final answer, as ZenMagick is a (fast) moving target. (more…)

Even though I am currently quite busy with non Mozilla related projects (well, beside my real work and my family), I keep an eye on what is happening with Firefox.
The application vs. platform discussion was quite interesting and I think the eventual outcome with MozPad channeling efforts around XulRunner should be satisfying for all involved.
One thing of particular interest I saw a couple days ago was an announcement that Places will be part of Firefox3a5. This means that, having cleaned up my current pet project, I might have some time to investigate whether this will allow to resurrect the Form History Manager extension for Firefox3!

Another big release – and I am glad it is done. I know that part of the new plugin API will still change quite a bit, but it’s usable and will do to get started. Also, since I have a tendency to add and add instead of releasing it’s good to get it out and stop fussing over it.
Time for a break and some sleep…

.. not quite, but I am happy to announce that I am now able to offer commercial support and coding for ZenMagick, zen-cart, Mozilla (Extensions) and other web work (Java, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, the works).
The official company website is mixedmatter.co.nz. Not a lot there yet, but i’s in the making…
Just to be sure, ZenMagick is FREE and will always be FREE (have a look at the licence if you don’t believe me). Still, I feel that there is perhaps a need for some security about ZenMagick and the future of it, especially for developers/companies that plan to use ZenMagick for their work.
There will also be an official announcement on the mixedmatter site once we get around to doing that. Until then, this somewhat informal announcement will have to do.

The first small steps towards using sourceforge have been made! The navigation on the ZenMagick homepage now includes links to the various public services like bug tracking, feature and support requests.
Once the next release is out I hope to move the code as well, even though I am still not sure about the how to. I am currently using CVSNT which doesn’t seem to be too compatible with standard CVS or even SVN…
Still, things start to move and I am looking forward to people using those services!

Finally I managed to update the toolbarmode extension. Not a lot new, except for a new locale (ja-JP), Thunderbird2 support and also for Flock and Sunbird. Sunbird has it’s own file, while Flock is compatible with the new firefox binary.
Enjoy.

It’s definitely time for a new release. Even though there are surprisingly few fixes in the new code, it would be good to get the new stuff out into the wild for some proper evaluation/testing.
I would think that 0.8.0 is possible within the next two weeks. Some of the time wil be coding, some more time is needed to start integrating sourceforge resources into the currentwebsite.

Yes, still plugins. Seems I have started really underestimated this. On the other hand it shows that plugins are a quite powerful thing and need some time to tame!

I’ve had some more time to think about plugins and what they are or should be. I’ve come to the conclusion that even though it is nice to be compatible, plugins in ZenMagick will take a rather different direction in the middle and long term. (more…)

People using less aggressive ad-blocker will notice that of now the blog is displaying some ads in the right hand navigation. I’ve been thinking about this for a while and might add it to the ZenMagick site as weel as part of the new release that will include a Google AdSense plugin.
I’ve tried a few layouts and thought about banners too, but in the end I found the current version the most elegant for now. It might change over time or disappear again – well see
