cron job(s)
The release notes for ZenMagick 0.9.3 contain a small note saying that zm_cron now comes with a birthday email job.
I think it is worth pondering the fact that someting that typically would be a full zen-cart mode can be done as a single class utilizing an exiting (generic) plugin.
The actual logic of the job to generate birthday emails is about 10 lines of code
