site update

Filed under: ZenMagick — DerManoMann @ 11:10 pm

Just a quick update for all interested that zenmagick.org is up and running again.

Sorry for the trouble this might have caused – really bad timing!

Unrelated to that I’ve created a new subdomain forum.zenmagick.org. In the next week or so we’ll be having a new locally hosted forum that is going to replace the current sourceforge solution. It’s an experiment and it’s going to be interesting to see what comes out of it.

One of the things I hope is that it will allow to start some real discussions about ZenMagick, a manifest, features, etc.

  1. All the best.

Rest assured that there are a lot of people cheering as many of us are sick to the gills with Zen Cart and for who a viable alternative can’t come quickly enough. Actually, it is not Zen Cart per se but the attitude of the Admins of that project.

The obsessively secretive / closed nature of the project and the outright hostility towards anyone that tries to contribute is something that puts me off. It is my belief, rightly or wrongly, that they are too concerned with the commercial aspect and see anyone trying to contribute as a threat rather than as an asset. Really weird for a so called open source project.

  2. Looking forward to the new forum, Mano. I have officially jumped ship now. Now, I just need to start learning your system so I can get my store switched over, I have started to set up a new test store in earnest in my spare time so I am sure to have a bunch of n00b questions for you on the forum.

I am willing to help out in any way possible, converting some of your posts into wiki articles, answering other n00b questions once I learn the answers myself, writing documentation for the business owner non-developer types like me, etc. Plus a monthly donation once you have it set up.

I mentioned zenmagick on the zen cart forum and it gets edited out of my post! Cheeky monkeys!!!

  3. Lol! When they removed ZenMagick from the contributions section they removed most threads, incl. the main support thread without any warning…

I should be able to set up the new forum sometime this week. There is already someone lined up to manage the forum but the more the merrier!

Great that you are willing to help – it is much appreciated.
